Learn About The Community in Allenby and Real Estate in Allenby, Toronto

Allenby, Toronto

Allenby is one of those Midtown neighbourhoods that feels quiet and residential, even though you’re really close to everything. It sits between Eglinton Avenue West and Briar Hill Avenue, with Avenue Road on the east, and you’re just minutes from Yonge and Eglinton, Forest Hill and some of the city’s best parks and trails.

The streets are mostly lined with mature trees and family homes, and there’s a really comfortable, established feel to the area. You’ll find plenty of detached houses, along with some semi-detached homes and newer renovations. A lot of the homes have that classic Toronto look, with front porches, brick exteriors and good-sized yards, while others have been updated or completely transformed over the years.

For families, schools are a big part of the appeal. Allenby Junior Public School is right in the neighbourhood and has been part of the community since the 1930s. It also has a long history with French Immersion. Glenview Senior Public School and North Toronto Collegiate Institute are also among the schools serving parts of the area, depending on the address.

One of the best things about living here is how close you are to Eglinton Park. It’s a great local spot with sports fields, tennis courts, playgrounds and plenty of room for kids and dogs to run around. Right beside the park is the North Toronto Memorial Community Recreation Centre, which has pools, skating facilities, a gym and recreation programs.

If you like getting outside, the Kay Gardner Beltline Trail is another huge bonus. The trail follows a former railway line and winds through the trees and ravines, making it a popular spot for walking, running and cycling. It’s one of those places that can make you forget you’re in the middle of Toronto.

You’re also close to Eglinton Avenue West, where you’ll find plenty of local restaurants, cafés, grocery stores and everyday services. There are some great little neighbourhood spots along the stretch, including independent coffee shops and restaurants, so you don’t have to head downtown every time you want to go out for dinner or grab a coffee.

And when you want even more options, Yonge and Eglinton is just a short trip away. You have the Yonge Eglinton Centre, more restaurants and shopping, movie theatres and plenty of services all in one place.

Getting around is pretty easy too. You have TTC buses along Eglinton and Avenue Road, and Eglinton Station is nearby for subway access. The new Line 5 Eglinton Crosstown also makes getting across Midtown much easier, while the area’s proximity to major streets means driving around the city is relatively convenient.

There’s also some interesting history tucked into the neighbourhood. Allenby Junior Public School sits on a site with a much older history, the TDSB notes that a Huron-Iroquois longhouse village once stood in the area in the 1400s. There’s a plaque at the school recognizing the site.

But what really makes Allenby appealing is the balance. You have quiet streets where kids can play and neighbours know each other, but you’re only a few minutes from busy Eglinton Avenue, great restaurants, transit and some of Midtown’s best parks.

It’s the kind of neighbourhood where you can walk the dog along the Beltline in the morning, grab a coffee on Eglinton, take the kids to Eglinton Park and still be downtown fairly quickly when you need to be. For families, professionals and buyers who want a quieter residential neighbourhood without giving up the convenience of Midtown, Allenby is definitely worth a look.
