Brockton Village

Brockton Village is one of those west-end neighbourhoods where old Toronto and the newer west end really come together. You’ll find colourful Victorian homes, front porches and tree-lined residential streets just around the corner from busy restaurants, cafés, bakeries and local shops. There’s a lot happening here, but it still feels like a neighbourhood where people know their local spots and spend time in the community.

The homes are a big part of Brockton Village’s character. You’ll find Victorian and Edwardian houses, detached and semi-detached homes, traditional Toronto row houses and beautifully renovated century properties. Many still have original details like brick façades, stained glass, decorative trim and front porches, while inside they’ve been updated for modern family life. There are also some condos, lofts and income properties mixed throughout the area.

Dundas Street West is where much of the neighbourhood’s personality comes through. There’s a great mix of independent coffee shops, bakeries, restaurants, bars, specialty food stores and local businesses, with something new mixed in alongside places that have been here for years. The area’s Portuguese roots are still very much part of the community, giving Brockton a character that feels different from some of the neighbourhoods around it.

For families, there are several schools in and around the neighbourhood, including Brock Public School, Shirley Street Junior Public School and Bloor Collegiate Institute, along with Catholic and alternative school options nearby. There are also plenty of parks, playgrounds and recreation options within easy reach.

Dufferin Grove Park is one of the best-known green spaces nearby, with a playground, sports facilities, skating in the winter and lots of room to hang out on a nice day. McCormick Park is another great local spot, with a playground, splash pad and community recreation centre. The West Toronto Railpath is also close by for walking, running and cycling.

One of the nice things about living in Brockton Village is how many other great neighbourhoods are right on your doorstep. Little Portugal and Dundas West are just to the south, Bloordale is to the north, and Roncesvalles, Parkdale and Trinity Bellwoods are all close enough that you’ll probably find yourself spending time in all of them.

Getting around is easy too. Dundas West and Lansdowne subway stations are nearby, along with streetcar and bus routes throughout the area. The UP Express at Bloor Station gives you a quick connection to Union Station and Pearson Airport, which is a pretty handy bonus.

But what really gives Brockton Village its personality is the combination of old and new. You have longtime local businesses and Portuguese bakeries alongside newer restaurants and coffee shops, while the residential streets are still filled with the century homes and front porches that give this part of Toronto so much character.



It’s walkable, lively and connected, but there’s still a real neighbourhood feel once you step away from the main streets. For anyone who loves older Toronto homes, great food and having plenty to do close to home, Brockton Village is a pretty easy place to like.
