Mimico

Mimico is one of those Etobicoke neighbourhoods that has a little bit of everything. You have the lake right outside your door, quiet residential streets, older homes with character, newer condos and townhomes, and plenty of places to grab a coffee or dinner. It feels like a real neighbourhood, but you’re also just a short trip from downtown Toronto.

One of the best things about Mimico is the mix of old and new. You’ll find charming older homes on streets lined with mature trees, as well as newer developments around the waterfront and along Lake Shore Boulevard West. There are also plenty of condos for people who want the waterfront lifestyle without the maintenance of a detached home.

The waterfront is definitely one of the biggest draws. Mimico Waterfront Park runs along Lake Ontario and connects into the larger waterfront trail system, making it easy to get out for a walk, run or bike ride. You’re also close to Humber Bay Park, where you can take in some pretty amazing views of the Toronto skyline and CN Tower.

For families, there are several schools in and around the neighbourhood, including David Hornell Junior School, John English Junior Middle School, Norseman Junior Middle School and Etobicoke School of the Arts. There are also Catholic school options nearby. As with any Toronto neighbourhood, school boundaries can vary depending on the exact address.

Mimico also has plenty of everyday amenities. Royal York Road, Lake Shore Boulevard West and the Mimico Village area have local restaurants, cafés, bakeries and shops. You’re also not far from Sherway Gardens if you need more shopping, and the nearby Queensway and Bloor Street West areas give you even more options.

Getting downtown is pretty easy too. Mimico GO Station is a big selling point for commuters, and the TTC runs through the neighbourhood as well. The Gardiner Expressway is also close by, which makes getting around the GTA a little easier.

There’s also a lot of history here. Mimico started as a small lakeside community and has grown quite a bit over the years, but you can still see that older character in some of the original homes and streets. At the same time, the waterfront has changed dramatically with new parks, trails and residential development.



And then there’s the lake. There’s something pretty nice about being able to head out for a walk after dinner, watch the sunset over Lake Ontario or grab your coffee and walk along the waterfront. It gives Mimico a relaxed feel that can be hard to find elsewhere in Toronto.
