Bennington Heights, Toronto
Bennington Heights is one of those neighbourhoods that feels surprisingly tucked away for somewhere so close to the city. Sitting between Leaside, Moore Park and the Don Valley, it has quiet streets, mature trees, larger lots and plenty of green space. It’s peaceful and residential, but you’re still close to Bayview Avenue, Leaside and downtown.
The homes are a big part of the appeal here. You’ll find mostly detached houses, along with some semi-detached homes and townhouses, many sitting on larger lots than you might expect this close to downtown. There are classic mid-century homes, renovated family houses and newer custom builds, and a lot of the streets have a really established feel.
For families, Bennington Heights Elementary School is right in the neighbourhood, and there are several other schools in nearby Leaside and Moore Park. The area is also close to Leaside High School and Northern Secondary School, depending on the address.
Outdoor space is one of the biggest reasons people love living here. Bennington Heights Park has a playground, sports facilities and a popular tobogganing hill in the winter. The neighbourhood also backs onto the Don Valley, giving residents easy access to trails and plenty of places to get outside. You’re also close to Evergreen Brick Works, which is one of the best places in the city for exploring trails, gardens, markets and community events. The Beltline Trail and Don Valley trail system provide even more options for walking, running and cycling.
For everyday errands, Bayview Avenue and Moore Avenue are close by, with shops, restaurants, cafés and services. Leaside Village and the shops around Laird Drive are also just a short trip away. Getting around is fairly easy too. There are TTC bus routes throughout the area, and Laird Station on Line 5 provides another option for getting across the city. The Don Valley Parkway is also nearby for drivers.
But what really makes Bennington Heights special is how quiet it feels. You can be minutes from some of Toronto’s busiest neighbourhoods and still have a street where you know your neighbours, kids are outside playing and there’s plenty of green space nearby.
