Richmond Hill

Richmond Hill is a popular choice for people who want a little more space and a quieter pace while still being close enough to Toronto for work, family and everything the GTA has to offer. It has a mix of established neighbourhoods, newer communities, larger family homes, townhomes and condos, so there’s quite a bit of variety depending on what you’re looking for.

One of the nicest things about Richmond Hill is the amount of green space. The city has plenty of parks and trails, and you’re never too far from somewhere to get outside. Lake Wilcox Park is one of the most popular spots, with a waterfront trail, boardwalk, playgrounds, a splash pad and beautiful views over the lake. It’s especially busy during the warmer months when families and dog walkers are out enjoying the area. Another local favourite is Mill Pond Park, right in the heart of Richmond Hill. It’s a peaceful place for a walk and is surrounded by mature trees, trails and historic homes. The park is also home to the Richmond Hill Heritage Centre, and it’s a popular spot for community events throughout the year.

Richmond Hill has lots of family-friendly neighbourhoods, including Mill Pond, Crosby, Oak Ridges, Bayview Hill, North Richvale and Elgin Mills. Each area has its own feel. Mill Pond has more mature streets and older homes, while Oak Ridges has a mix of newer homes and plenty of access to parks and Lake Wilcox.

For families, there are plenty of schools throughout the city, including Richmond Hill High School, Bayview Secondary School, Alexander Mackenzie High School, St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic High School and St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School. There are also many elementary schools and private school options. As always, school boundaries can vary depending on the exact address.

There are lots of things to do outside of the neighbourhood parks too. Richmond Green Sports Centre and Park is a huge community space with sports fields, skating facilities, playgrounds, trails and the Richmond Green Skate Trail. It’s a popular place for families and anyone who likes to stay active.

For shopping and restaurants, Hillcrest Mall is one of the main destinations in the area, with a good mix of stores, restaurants and everyday services. Yonge Street is also the main commercial corridor through Richmond Hill, with plenty of restaurants, cafés, shops and businesses along the way.

Richmond Hill has a strong connection to the arts and entertainment as well. The Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts hosts concerts, theatre, dance and community events throughout the year, while the Richmond Hill David Dunlap Observatory is a pretty unique local attraction for anyone interested in astronomy and the night sky.

Getting around is becoming easier too. Richmond Hill GO Station and Langstaff GO Station provide train service into Toronto, while York Region Transit connects the different neighbourhoods. The Yonge Street corridor and Highway 404 also make getting around the GTA fairly convenient, and the TTC's Line 1 extension into York Region has made subway access much easier for residents in the southern part of Richmond Hill.

Richmond Hill also has a really nice mix of old and new. You can find mature neighbourhoods with large lots and established trees only a short distance from newer communities with modern homes and townhouses. That variety is a big part of the appeal.



What really makes Richmond Hill stand out is the balance between suburban living and convenience. You get more space, lots of parks, good schools and plenty of things to do, but you’re still close to Toronto and connected to the rest of the GTA. For families especially, it can be a great place to put down roots.
