Bendale

Bendale is one of those Scarborough neighbourhoods where pretty much everything you need is close by. It’s central, easy to get around, and has a great mix of quiet residential streets, parks, schools, shopping and transit. It’s especially popular with families, first-time buyers and people who want a little more space without giving up the conveniences of the city.

One of the biggest landmarks in the area is Scarborough Town Centre, which gives you shopping, restaurants, groceries, services and entertainment all in one place. Right nearby you’ll also find the Scarborough Civic Centre, Albert Campbell Square and the Toronto Public Library’s Scarborough Civic Centre Branch. In the warmer months, Albert Campbell Square hosts community events and festivals, and in the winter there’s an outdoor skating rink.

Bendale is also a great area if you like having green space nearby. Thomson Memorial Park is a local favourite with walking trails, sports fields, playgrounds, picnic areas and lots of room to get outside. It’s also home to the Scarborough Museum, which is a fun little piece of local history that many people don’t even realize is right in the neighbourhood. Birkdale Ravine is another great spot for walking and enjoying some nature without having to leave the city.

Families have a number of schools in and around the neighbourhood, including Bendale Junior Public School, Highbrook Learning Centre, Donwood Park Public School, Charles Gordon Senior Public School and David and Mary Thomson Collegiate Institute. There are also Catholic and private school options nearby.

The homes are another reason people are drawn to Bendale. You’ll find established streets with detached houses and good-sized lots, along with townhomes and condos closer to Scarborough Town Centre. There’s a nice range of options depending on whether you’re looking for your first condo, a family home or something with a little more space.

Getting around is pretty easy too. Highway 401 is just minutes away, there are plenty of TTC routes throughout the neighbourhood, and Scarborough GO Station is a short drive south. The area around Scarborough Town Centre is also a major transit hub, making it easy to get to other parts of Scarborough and Toronto.

What I like about Bendale is that it’s just an easy place to live. You can be on a quiet residential street and still be five minutes from shopping, groceries, restaurants, parks and pretty much anything else you need. It has that established Scarborough neighbourhood feel while still being right in the middle of everything.
