The Junction

The Junction has become one of Toronto’s best-known west-end neighbourhoods, but it still has plenty of the character that made people fall in love with it in the first place. You have beautiful older homes and tree-lined residential streets just steps from Dundas Street West, where independent restaurants, cafés, breweries, shops and local businesses give the neighbourhood its energy.

The homes here are a big part of the appeal. You’ll find traditional Toronto semis, detached houses, Victorian and Edwardian homes, row houses and renovated century properties, many with front porches, original brickwork and mature trees. Condos, lofts and newer developments have added more options over the years, but much of The Junction still has that established old Toronto feel.

The neighbourhood gets its name from its railway history, and that industrial past is still part of its personality. Former industrial buildings and warehouses have found new life alongside newer businesses and residential spaces, giving The Junction a mix of old and new that feels a little different from the neighbourhoods around it.

Dundas Street West is really the heart of the community. There’s a great collection of independent coffee shops, bakeries, restaurants, bars, breweries, vintage stores and boutiques, along with businesses that have been part of the neighbourhood for years. It’s an easy place to spend a Saturday wandering around without having much of a plan.

For families, there are several schools in and around the neighbourhood, including Indian Road Crescent Junior Public School, Runnymede Junior and Senior Public School and Humberside Collegiate Institute, along with Catholic and alternative school options nearby.

There’s also plenty of green space. Runnymede Park, Baird Park and Vine Parkette provide local playgrounds and recreation, while High Park is just to the south with trails, playgrounds, Grenadier Pond, sports facilities and the High Park Zoo. George Bell Arena is another longtime community hub, particularly for hockey and skating.

The West Toronto Railpath is close by too, giving walkers, runners and cyclists a great route through the west end away from busy streets. With High Park nearby as well, there are plenty of ways to get outside even though you’re living in a busy urban neighbourhood.

Getting around is convenient, with Keele and Dundas West subway stations nearby, along with streetcar and bus connections throughout the area. Dundas West also connects with the Bloor GO/UP Express station, making it easy to get downtown or out to Pearson Airport.

For buyers, The Junction offers an interesting mix. You can find substantial century homes on quieter residential streets, smaller semis and row houses, renovated properties and newer condos, all within walking distance of a busy neighbourhood main street. That variety attracts everyone from first-time buyers and professionals to families looking for a longer-term home.

What really gives The Junction its personality is the way the old and new sit comfortably together. Longtime neighbourhood businesses share Dundas with newer restaurants and breweries, while historic homes and former industrial buildings tell a little bit of the area’s past.



It’s lively and walkable without feeling like downtown, and there’s enough happening locally that you don't have to leave the neighbourhood very often. Add in High Park, the Railpath and great transit, and it’s easy to understand why The Junction has become such a popular part of Toronto’s west end.
