Guildwood

Guildwood is one of those Scarborough neighbourhoods that feels a little different from the rest of the city. There’s a quiet, almost suburban feel here, with large mature trees, winding streets, bigger lots and plenty of green space. Then you have Lake Ontario, the Scarborough Bluffs and Guildwood GO Station right nearby, which makes the neighbourhood both peaceful and surprisingly convenient.

One of the things I love about Guildwood is the homes. The area is known for its mid-century houses, many of which were built in the 1950s and 1960s. You’ll find lots of detached homes, bungalows, split-levels and larger family houses, often sitting on generous lots surrounded by mature trees. Many of the homes have been renovated over the years, while others still have that great original mid-century character.

For families, there are several schools in and around the neighbourhood, including Guildwood Junior Public School, Guildwood Village Public School, Elizabeth Simcoe Junior Public School and Sir Wilfrid Laurier Collegiate Institute. There are also Catholic school options nearby. The quiet streets, parks and larger lots make Guildwood a popular choice for families who want a little more room to grow.

The outdoor space is definitely one of the biggest perks of living here. Guild Park and Gardens is probably the neighbourhood’s most recognizable attraction. The park is filled with historic architectural pieces, gardens, walking paths and beautiful green space, and it’s a great place to explore on a weekend afternoon.

You’re also right beside Guildwood Village Park and close to the Scarborough Bluffs, with plenty of trails, parks and lookout points nearby. Bluffer’s Park and Bluffer’s Beach are a short drive away, giving you easy access to Lake Ontario when you want to spend a summer day by the water.

Another local favourite is Guildwood Village, which gives the neighbourhood a real community hub. You’ll find local shops, restaurants, services and everyday conveniences, so you don’t always have to leave the area to get what you need. There are also community programs and activities at Guildwood Community Centre, which help bring neighbours together.

Getting around is one of Guildwood’s biggest advantages. Guildwood GO Station is right in the neighbourhood and is a huge bonus for commuters heading downtown or across the GTA. There are also TTC bus routes throughout the area, and Kingston Road provides an easy connection to other parts of Scarborough and Toronto.

Guildwood also has some pretty interesting history. The neighbourhood is home to the Guild Inn Estate, a beautiful historic property within Guild Park that has been an important part of the community for decades. The surrounding park is filled with pieces of old Toronto buildings, columns, sculptures and architectural details, making it unlike almost anywhere else in the city.

You’re also not far from Rosetta McClain Gardens, Scarborough Heights Park and the Beaches, so there are plenty of options when you want to explore the east end or get outside. Whether it’s walking the trails, heading down to the lake or simply enjoying your own backyard, there’s no shortage of green space here.

But what really makes Guildwood special is the feeling of the neighbourhood. It’s peaceful and established, with streets where neighbours have lived for decades and families often stay for generations. There’s a real sense of community, but you’re still close enough to transit, shopping and major roads that you don’t feel isolated.



You get larger lots, mature trees, great parks, access to the lake and one of the best GO Transit locations in Scarborough. For families, commuters and anyone looking for a little more space without leaving Toronto, Guildwood is a pretty special place to call home.
