Mississauga

Mississauga is one of those places that has something for pretty much everyone. It’s a big city, but once you get into the different neighbourhoods, many areas have a comfortable, community feel. You’ll find everything from established streets with mature trees and detached family homes to newer condos, townhomes and developments along the waterfront. It’s also a popular choice for people who want more space while still being close enough to Toronto for work, family and everything the city has to offer.

One of the best things about Mississauga is that every part of the city feels a little different. If you want to be close to the lake, Port Credit, Mineola, Clarkson and Lakeview are popular choices. Further north, areas like Streetsville, Erin Mills, Meadowvale and Lisgar have more of a traditional suburban feel, with family homes, parks, schools and plenty of everyday amenities.

For families, there are lots of schools throughout Mississauga, including Port Credit Secondary School, Clarkson Secondary School, Lorne Park Secondary School, Streetsville Secondary School, Glenforest Secondary School, John Fraser Secondary School and Stephen Lewis Secondary School, along with a large number of elementary schools and Catholic school options. There are also private school choices, including Holy Name of Mary College School and Mentor College. School boundaries can vary quite a bit, so it’s always worth checking the exact address when you’re considering a home.

There’s also no shortage of places to get outside. Jack Darling Memorial Park is a favourite along Lake Ontario, with walking trails, picnic areas, a beach and great views across the water. Rattray Marsh Conservation Area is another local gem, with boardwalks and nature trails that make you forget you’re in the middle of the GTA. Lakefront Promenade Park is another great spot for walking, biking, having a picnic or spending a summer afternoon by the lake.

If you’re looking for more of a small-town feel, Streetsville and Port Credit are two of the most popular areas. Streetsville has a charming main street with independent shops, cafés, restaurants and historic buildings, while Port Credit has the waterfront, marina, restaurants and the Credit River. Both have a really strong community feel and plenty going on throughout the year.

Mississauga also has some major attractions. Square One Shopping Centre is one of the biggest shopping destinations in the GTA, and nearby Celebration Square hosts concerts, festivals, markets and community events throughout the year. The Living Arts Centre is right across from the square and offers theatre, music, dance and other performances. For something a little different, the Bradley Museum and Benares Historic House offer a look at some of Mississauga’s history.

For families and anyone who likes being active, Erindale Park is another popular spot. Located along the Credit River, it has trails, picnic areas and plenty of green space. The Credit River itself runs through a large part of Mississauga and gives many neighbourhoods access to trails, parks and natural areas.

Getting around is another big advantage. Mississauga has several GO Train stations, including Port Credit, Clarkson, Streetsville, Meadowvale and Cooksville, making commuting into Toronto much easier. MiWay buses connect neighbourhoods throughout the city, and the MiWay and TTC networks connect in several areas. You’re also close to major highways including the QEW, 401, 403 and 407, and Pearson International Airport is right on the city's doorstep.

Mississauga has also grown a lot over the years, but many of its older neighbourhoods still have that established feel that people love. You’ll find mature trees, larger lots, parks and streets where neighbours have lived for decades, alongside newer developments and condo communities.



What really makes Mississauga stand out is the balance. You can have a quiet morning walking along the lake, spend the afternoon shopping at Square One, grab dinner in Port Credit and still be home without having to travel across the GTA. There’s lots of space, plenty to do and a huge variety of neighbourhoods, which is why it continues to be such a popular place to call home.
