Real Estate In Highland Creek, Scarborough

 Highland Creek, Scarborough

Highland Creek is one of those Scarborough neighbourhoods that can make you forget you’re still in Toronto. It has a small-town, almost country-like feel, with quiet streets, mature trees, larger lots and plenty of green space. You’re close to the lake, the Rouge Valley and some beautiful parks, but you’re still within the city and have easy access to everything you need.

One of the things I love about Highland Creek is the homes. There’s a great mix of older character homes, traditional brick houses, bungalows, larger family homes and newer builds. Many of the older homes have big yards and mature trees, and there are also newer developments mixed throughout the community. The streets have a relaxed, residential feel, and there’s a nice mix of longtime residents and younger families.

For families, there are several schools in and around the neighbourhood, including Highland Creek Public School, Morrish Public School, Jack Miner Senior Public School and West Hill Collegiate Institute. Cardinal Newman Catholic High School is also nearby, along with other Catholic school options. With so many parks, trails and recreation facilities close by, there’s plenty for families to do year-round.

The outdoor space is definitely one of the biggest reasons people love Highland Creek. Highland Creek Ravine runs right through the community, with trails and green space that are perfect for walking, biking and exploring. You’re also close to Colonel Danforth Park, which follows the Highland Creek valley and has walking trails, picnic areas and plenty of space to enjoy the outdoors.

And then there’s the Rouge National Urban Park, which is one of the biggest perks of living this far east. With forests, meadows, wetlands, trails and waterfront areas to explore, it’s an incredible amount of nature right in your backyard.

Rouge Beach and Lake Ontario are also nearby when you want to spend a day by the water.

There are lots of everyday conveniences close to home too. Highland Creek Village has local shops, restaurants, cafés and services, while Kingston Road and Port Union Road offer even more options for groceries, dining and errands. UTSC is also nearby, making the neighbourhood convenient for students, staff and anyone connected to the University of Toronto Scarborough campus.

Getting around is easier than you might expect. There are TTC bus routes throughout the neighbourhood, and Guildwood GO Station and Rouge Hill GO Station are both nearby for commuters heading downtown or across the GTA. The 401 is also easily accessible, which is a big bonus if you’re driving.

Highland Creek has some interesting local history too. The community grew around the Highland Creek itself and was once a much more rural area before becoming part of Toronto. You can still see that history in some of the older homes, larger properties and winding roads throughout the neighbourhood. Morningside Park and the surrounding ravine system are also reminders of how much natural space has been preserved here.

One of the things that really makes Highland Creek stand out is the community. It has that friendly, established feeling where neighbours know each other, families tend to stay for years and local events bring people together. It feels removed from the hustle and bustle of downtown, but you’re still only a GO train ride or drive away.

You have nature, trails, schools, parks, the lake and plenty of space, while still having access to transit and the rest of Toronto. For families looking for a quieter lifestyle, buyers who want a larger yard or anyone who loves being close to nature, Highland Creek is a pretty special place to call home.
