Uxbridge is one of those places that feels like a real escape from the busier parts of the GTA, without actually being that far away. You get the small-town feel, beautiful countryside, lots of trails and green space, and a downtown where local businesses still know their customers. It’s a popular choice for families, people looking for more space and anyone who wants a quieter pace of life.

One thing I love about Uxbridge is how easy it is to get outside. The community is known as the “Trail Capital of Canada,” and once you start exploring the trails, it’s easy to see why. There are miles of paths through forests, fields and conservation areas, whether you’re out for a quick walk with the dog or looking for a longer hike.

Elgin Park is right in town and is a popular spot for families, while Uxbridge Trails connect many of the natural areas around the community. Uxbridge Countryside Preserve is another great place to explore, with walking and cycling trails surrounded by beautiful countryside.

If winter is your thing, Uxbridge is also close to Dagmar Ski Resort and Lakeridge Ski Resort. Both are popular with local families for skiing, snowboarding and tubing, and it’s pretty nice having that kind of outdoor activity practically in your backyard.

Downtown Uxbridge is another reason people love living here. Brock Street and Toronto Street are lined with independent shops, restaurants, cafés and local businesses. It has that classic small-town feel where you can park your car, walk around and actually take your time. You’ll also find plenty of local events and festivals happening throughout the year.

For families, there are several schools in and around the community, including Uxbridge Secondary School, Joseph Gould Public School, Uxbridge Public School and St. Joseph Catholic School. Uxbridge Public Library is another great community resource, with programs and activities for kids, families and adults.

One of the things I really like about Uxbridge is the variety of homes. You’ll find older houses and bungalows close to town, newer detached homes and townhomes, as well as larger country properties once you get outside the main community. If having a bigger lot, some extra privacy or room to spread out is important to you, there are plenty of options to explore.

There are also some great local spots to grab a coffee or something to eat. The Second Wedge Brewing Co. is probably one of the best-known local businesses, and it’s a great place to meet up with friends and enjoy a local craft beer. The Bridge Social is a popular spot for coffee and food, while Annina’s Bake Shop & Café is perfect when you’re looking for something sweet or a fresh baked treat.

If you’re looking for a day out, there’s lots to explore beyond the downtown. The Second Wedge, Uxbridge Historical Centre, local farms and markets, and the nearby ski hills all give you plenty of options. You’re also close to the Oak Ridges Moraine, which means there’s no shortage of beautiful scenery and places to explore.

Another big part of Uxbridge is the community itself. It’s the kind of place where local events are well supported, small businesses are important and people tend to take pride in where they live. You’ll see families out walking, cyclists making their way through town and plenty of people enjoying the trails on the weekends.

Uxbridge is a little further north than some of Durham’s more suburban communities, but that’s also part of the appeal. You’re surrounded by countryside and nature, while still having everything you need close to home. And when you do need to head into the GTA, Highway 407 is easily accessible.
