Morningside

Morningside is one of those Scarborough neighbourhoods that gives you a little more breathing room while still keeping you connected to the rest of Toronto. It’s a quiet, established community with lots of parks, mature trees and family-friendly streets, and it’s surrounded by some of the best green space in the east end.

One of the things I love about Morningside is the variety of homes. You’ll find plenty of detached houses, bungalows and semi-detached homes, along with townhomes, condos and apartment buildings. Many of the residential streets have mature trees and good-sized yards, and there’s a nice mix of longtime homeowners, young families and first-time buyers.

For families, there are several schools in and around the neighbourhood, including Morningside Public School, Cedarbrook Public School. Sir Oliver Mowat Collegiate Institute is also nearby, along with a number of Catholic school options. The area has plenty of parks and recreation opportunities, which makes it a popular choice for families.

The outdoor space is definitely one of the biggest perks of living here. Morningside Park runs along the Morningside Creek and has walking trails, open green space, sports fields and plenty of room to get outside. It also connects into the larger ravine system that runs through Scarborough, so there are lots of opportunities for walking, biking and exploring.

You’re also very close to Rouge National Urban Park, one of the most unique natural areas in Toronto. With forests, wetlands, meadows, trails and the Rouge River, it’s an amazing place to spend a weekend morning. There are plenty of everyday conveniences close to home too. Morningside Crossing and the shops and services along Morningside Avenue, Lawrence Avenue East and Ellesmere Road make it easy to take care of errands. Malvern Town Centre is also nearby, with grocery stores, restaurants, shops and other services.

Getting around is another advantage. There are TTC bus routes throughout the neighbourhood, with connections to Lawrence East Station and Kennedy Station. Guildwood GO Station and Rouge Hill GO Station are also nearby, giving commuters another option for getting downtown and around the GTA. And with the 401 close by, driving across Scarborough and beyond is fairly convenient.

Morningside is also close to some great local attractions. University of Toronto Scarborough is nearby, as is Toronto Zoo, which is always a popular destination for families. Colonel Danforth Park and the Highland Creek ravine system are also close by, giving you even more places to explore.

Another thing that stands out about Morningside is the diversity of the community. There’s a mix of cultures, backgrounds and generations, and you can see that reflected in the local restaurants, shops and community events. It gives the neighbourhood a welcoming, down-to-earth feel.
