Blake-Jones

Blake-Jones is one of those east-end neighbourhoods that gives you a little bit of everything. You have quiet residential streets, beautiful older homes and a real neighbourhood feel, but you’re also just steps from the energy of the Danforth. It’s a great spot for people who want to be able to walk to restaurants, coffee shops, parks and the subway without feeling like they’re living right downtown.

The Danforth is obviously a big part of life here. There are tons of independent restaurants, cafés, bakeries, pubs and little shops to explore, and you’re close enough to Greektown that there’s always somewhere new to eat or grab a coffee. The annual Taste of the Danforth has also been one of the area's best-known events over the years.

One of the neighbourhood’s hidden gems is Kempton Howard Park, formerly known as Blake Street Park. It has a playground, splash pad, basketball court and green space and is a popular gathering place for local families. You're also not far from Withrow Park, which is a favourite in the east end with its playground, off-leash dog area, sports fields, farmers' market and outdoor skating rink in the winter.

There are several schools in and around the community, including Blake Street Junior Public School, Pape Avenue Junior Public School, Earl Grey Senior Public School and Riverdale Collegiate Institute, along with Catholic school options nearby. Families also have easy access to local libraries, recreation programs and community centres throughout the east end.

The homes are a big part of the charm here. You’ll find lots of classic Toronto semis and detached homes, many with front porches, mature trees and plenty of character. Some have been beautifully renovated while others still have their original details, so there’s a really nice mix from street to street.

Getting around is another huge plus. Pape, Donlands and Greenwood subway stations are all nearby depending on where you are in the neighbourhood, making it easy to get downtown. There are also plenty of TTC bus routes and bike-friendly streets, and a lot of your everyday errands can easily be done on foot.

What I really like about Blake-Jones is that it feels like a true Toronto neighbourhood. You can walk down to the Danforth for dinner, grab a coffee from a local café, take the kids to the park or just enjoy a walk through the residential streets. There’s always something happening nearby, but once you turn onto the side streets, it feels much more relaxed and residential.
