Leslieville, Toronto

Leslieville is one of those east-end neighbourhoods that seems to have a little bit of everything. It’s lively without feeling too busy, full of independent shops, great restaurants and cafés, and still has plenty of quiet residential streets where families have called home for years. You’re close to downtown, the lake and the Beaches, but Leslieville has a personality all its own.

One of the things I love about Leslieville is the homes. The neighbourhood is known for its classic Toronto row houses, Victorian homes, semi-detached houses and detached properties, many of which have been updated over the years. You’ll also find lofts, condos and newer townhomes mixed in. There’s a great mix of longtime residents, young families, first-time buyers and people who have moved here and quickly decided they don’t want to leave.

For families, there are several schools in and around the neighbourhood, including Leslieville Junior Public School, Morse Street Junior Public School, Duke of Connaught Public School and Riverdale Collegiate Institute. There are also several Catholic school options nearby. With parks and playgrounds throughout the area, families have plenty of places to get outside.

One of the best things about Leslieville is how easy it is to spend a day without getting in the car. Queen Street East is the heart of the neighbourhood, with independent shops, cafés, restaurants, bakeries and local businesses stretching from one end to the other. Gerrard Street East also has plenty of great places to eat and shop, giving the neighbourhood even more options.

The outdoor space is another big perk. Ashbridges Bay Park and Woodbine Beach are just a short trip away, making it easy to head down to the lake for a walk, bike ride or summer afternoon. Greenwood Park is also nearby, with sports fields, playgrounds, a swimming pool and plenty of open space.

For families and anyone who loves the outdoors, Leslie Grove Park is another local favourite. There are also walking and cycling routes throughout the neighbourhood, including easy connections to the waterfront and the Martin Goodman Trail.

Leslieville also has a strong community feel. Leslieville Farmers’ Market is a popular weekend stop, while local events, community festivals and neighbourhood businesses bring people together throughout the year. It’s the kind of place where you can have a favourite coffee shop, know the person behind the counter and run into someone you know while walking down Queen Street.

Getting around is pretty easy too. There are several TTC streetcar and bus routes along Queen Street East, Gerrard Street East and Coxwell Avenue, making it easy to get downtown or connect to the subway. Coxwell and Greenwood Stations are also nearby, and the Don Valley Parkway is convenient for drivers heading across the city.

Leslieville is also close to some of the east end’s best-known spots. You’re minutes from The Beaches, Woodbine Beach and Ashbridges Bay, and Riverdale Park East is just a short trip away when you want one of those incredible Toronto skyline views. Evergreen Brick Works and the Don Valley ravine system are also easy to reach.

But what really makes Leslieville special is the community and the lifestyle. It’s walkable, friendly and full of local businesses that give the neighbourhood its own character. There’s always somewhere new to try, a park to explore or a local event happening, but you can still turn onto a quiet residential street and feel right at home.

You’re close to great food, shopping, parks, the lake and downtown, but Leslieville still feels like its own little community. For families, young professionals, first-time buyers and anyone who loves a neighbourhood with a bit of energy and a lot of personality, Leslieville is hard to beat.
