Carleton Village

Carleton Village is one of those west-end neighbourhoods that can sometimes get overlooked beside better-known areas like The Junction and Corso Italia, but that’s part of its appeal. You’ll find quiet residential streets, older Toronto homes, local parks and a real mix of longtime residents and younger families, while St. Clair West, the Stockyards and some of the west end’s busiest neighbourhoods are all close by.

The homes here have plenty of character. You’ll find detached and semi-detached houses, Victorian and Edwardian homes, traditional row houses, bungalows and renovated century properties. Many still have the brick exteriors, front porches, mature trees and backyards that people love about older Toronto neighbourhoods, with a nice mix of original homes and properties that have been updated over the years.

Carleton Village also has some interesting history. The area began as a small railway community in the 1800s, and you can still see pieces of that older Toronto character throughout the neighbourhood. Today, it feels much more residential, with family homes and quieter streets tucked between some of the west end’s busier commercial areas.

For families, there are several schools in and around the neighbourhood, including Carleton Village Junior and Senior Sports and Wellness Academy and General Mercer Junior Public School, along with secondary, Catholic and alternative school options in the surrounding area.

Wadsworth Park is a great local green space with a playground, splash pad and room for kids to play, while Earlscourt Park is just to the north and has sports fields, a running track, playground, outdoor pool and the Joseph J. Piccininni Community Centre. Having such a large recreation hub nearby is a big bonus for families and anyone who likes to stay active.

There are lots of everyday conveniences close to home too. St. Clair Avenue West has restaurants, cafés, bakeries, grocery stores and local businesses, while Stockyards Village gives you easy access to larger retailers and everyday shopping. Corso Italia is nearby for even more restaurants and specialty food shops, and The Junction is just a short trip away.

From a real estate perspective, Carleton Village can be an interesting option for buyers who love the west end but are looking beyond some of the better-known neighbourhoods nearby. There are still character homes, family-sized properties and quieter residential streets, while The Junction, Corso Italia and St. Clair West are all within easy reach. For buyers who are flexible on the exact neighbourhood, it’s an area that can be worth adding to the search.

Getting around is fairly easy, with the 512 St. Clair streetcar nearby and several TTC bus routes connecting you to the subway and surrounding neighbourhoods. The location also makes it convenient to reach The Junction, Davenport, Corso Italia and other parts of the west end.

What I like about Carleton Village is that it still feels a little more relaxed than some of the neighbourhoods around it. You can head to St. Clair for coffee or dinner, spend an afternoon in The Junction or take the kids to Earlscourt Park, then come home to a quieter residential street with mature trees and older homes.



It’s a neighbourhood with history and character that still feels very much lived in. For buyers who like older Toronto homes, want parks and everyday conveniences nearby and don’t necessarily need to be in the middle of the busiest part of the west end, Carleton Village is definitely worth getting to know.
