Wychwood

Wychwood is one of those Toronto neighbourhoods that has a personality all its own. There are beautiful older homes, mature tree-lined streets and a really strong sense of community, but you’re also just steps from everything happening along St. Clair West. It feels creative, welcoming and a little different from some of the neighbourhoods around it, which is a big part of its charm.

One of the things I love about Wychwood is the homes. You’ll find detached and semi-detached century homes, Victorian and Edwardian properties and beautifully renovated family houses throughout the neighbourhood. Many still have those details people love in older Toronto homes, like front porches, original woodwork, stained glass and established gardens. There are also some condos and newer housing options closer to the main streets, but the character homes are definitely a big part of Wychwood’s identity.

At the heart of the neighbourhood is Wychwood Barns, and it really does feel like a community gathering place. The former TTC streetcar repair facility has been transformed into a space for artists, community programs, gardens, events and the popular year-round farmers’ market. On a Saturday morning, you’ll see families shopping at the market, neighbours catching up and people grabbing something to eat before heading out for the day.

The outdoor space is another big perk. Wychwood Barns Park has green space, a playground and community gardens, while nearby Cedarvale Park gives you even more room to walk, run, bike or take the dog out. You’re also close to the Cedarvale Ravine and the Beltline Trail, so there are plenty of ways to get outside without having to leave the city.

For families, there are several schools in and around the neighbourhood, along with public, Catholic and private options in the surrounding area. The parks, quieter residential streets and community programs at Wychwood Barns also make this a neighbourhood that tends to appeal to families.

St. Clair Avenue West is where you’ll find most of the local restaurants, cafés, bakeries and shops. There’s a great mix of independent businesses and everyday conveniences, and the neighbourhood is also close to everything along Bathurst Street. Forest Hill, Casa Loma, Hillcrest Village and Corso Italia are all nearby, giving you even more places to explore.

Getting around is easy too. The 512 St. Clair streetcar runs right through the area and connects with St. Clair West Station, making it convenient to get downtown or travel across the city.

But what really makes Wychwood stand out is the community itself. It’s the kind of place where you start recognizing people at the farmers’ market, neighbours stop to talk on the sidewalk and local events actually feel local.



You have beautiful homes, parks, trails, restaurants and great transit, but there’s also a creative and community-minded feeling here that’s hard to duplicate. It’s a neighbourhood with a lot of character, and one that can very quickly start to feel like home.
