Roncesvalles Village

Roncesvalles Village, or “Roncy” as pretty much everyone calls it, is one of those west-end neighbourhoods that really does feel like a little village within the city. Beautiful tree-lined streets sit just behind Roncesvalles Avenue, where you’ll find independent cafés, bakeries, restaurants, specialty food shops and small businesses that quickly become part of your everyday routine.

The neighbourhood has deep Polish roots, and that history is still easy to see along Roncesvalles Avenue. Polish bakeries, delis and restaurants remain part of the mix, alongside newer coffee shops, restaurants and boutiques. The annual Roncesvalles Polish Festival is one of the neighbourhood’s biggest events and brings the street to life with food, music and celebrations.

The homes are another big part of Roncy’s appeal. You’ll find beautiful brick detached and semi-detached houses, Edwardian and Victorian homes, traditional Toronto row houses and renovated family properties. Many have front porches, original architectural details and mature gardens, while newer condos and townhomes have added some different housing options closer to the main streets.

For families, there are several schools in and around the neighbourhood, including Fern Avenue Junior and Senior Public School, Garden Avenue Junior Public School and Parkdale Collegiate Institute, along with Catholic and alternative school options nearby. The combination of schools, parks and quieter residential streets is a big reason so many families are drawn to the area.

Sorauren Avenue Park is one of the neighbourhood’s favourite gathering places, with a playground, sports fields, dog park, farmers’ market and community events throughout the year. High Park is just minutes away too, giving you trails, playgrounds, gardens, Grenadier Pond and plenty of room to spend a weekend afternoon outside.

And then there’s the lake. Sunnyside Beach and the waterfront are close by, along with the Martin Goodman Trail for walking, running and cycling. Having High Park in one direction and Lake Ontario in the other gives Roncesvalles an incredible amount of outdoor space for a neighbourhood this close to downtown.

Roncesvalles Avenue makes everyday life particularly easy. You can grab coffee in the morning, pick up fresh bread or groceries, stop at a local shop and meet friends for dinner without leaving the neighbourhood. There’s a strong independent business community here, and supporting local really does feel like part of life in Roncy.

Getting around is convenient too. Streetcars run along Roncesvalles and connect toward downtown, while Dundas West Station provides access to Line 2. The nearby Bloor GO/UP Express connection is another bonus for getting downtown or out to Pearson Airport.

What really makes Roncesvalles special is how much of life happens within the neighbourhood itself. You start recognizing people at the coffee shop, families gather at Sorauren Park, neighbours walk to dinner and local businesses become the places you return to again and again.



You’re close to High Park, the waterfront and downtown, but Roncy still manages to have that comfortable neighbourhood feel that can be hard to find in the city. It’s a great combination of character homes, local businesses, outdoor space and everyday convenience.
