Casa Loma, Toronto

Casa Loma is one of those Toronto neighbourhoods that feels a little different from the rest of the city. You have beautiful older homes, quiet tree-lined streets and some incredible architecture, but you’re also close to Yonge Street, St. Clair, Forest Hill and downtown. And, of course, you have one of Toronto’s most recognizable landmarks right in the middle of it all.

The homes around Casa Loma have a lot of character. You’ll find large detached homes, classic brick houses, Tudor-style properties, semi-detached homes and newer custom builds. Many of the streets have a very established feel, with mature trees, gardens and homes that have been carefully maintained or renovated over the years.

For families, there are several schools in and around Casa Loma, including Hillcrest Community School, Brown Junior Public School, Forest Hill Junior and Senior Public School and Northern Secondary School. There are also several private and Catholic school options nearby.

The obvious landmark is Casa Loma itself. The castle attracts visitors from all over the city, but for residents, it’s also part of the neighbourhood backdrop. The surrounding Sir Winston Churchill Park is another local favourite, with tennis courts, a playground, sports fields and plenty of green space.

The neighbourhood also has easy access to the Beltline Trail, which is great for walking, running and cycling. Nordheimer Ravine is another beautiful nearby green space, and you’re not far from Spadina Museum and its gardens.

When it comes to everyday life, St. Clair Avenue West is where you’ll find plenty of restaurants, cafés, grocery stores and local businesses. The shops and restaurants around Spadina Road and Bathurst Street provide even more options, and you’re only a short trip from Forest Hill Village.

Getting around is convenient too. St. Clair West Station is nearby, along with the 512 St. Clair streetcar, and there are TTC buses throughout the neighbourhood. You can be downtown relatively quickly without having to drive.

What really makes Casa Loma special is the combination of architecture, green space and location. It feels established and peaceful, but you’re still close to everything. You can walk through the ravines, grab dinner on St. Clair and be downtown in no time.
