Forest Hill, Toronto
Forest Hill is one of those Toronto neighbourhoods that has a very established feel. It’s known for beautiful homes, mature trees, quiet streets and great schools, but you’re also close to shopping, restaurants, transit and downtown. It feels residential and peaceful without being too far removed from the rest of the city.
The homes are a big part of what makes Forest Hill so special. You’ll find everything from grand Tudor and Georgian-style homes to traditional brick houses, semi-detached homes, condos and newer custom builds. Some streets have larger properties and beautiful gardens, while others have a more traditional Toronto feel. There’s a lot of character throughout the neighbourhood, and no two streets feel exactly the same.
For families, there are several schools in and around Forest Hill, including Forest Hill Junior and Senior Public School, Forest Hill Collegiate Institute, Forest Hill School, Bishop Strachan School and Upper Canada College. There are also Catholic and private school options nearby. The schools, parks and quiet streets are a big reason families often stay in the area for many years.
One of the most popular spots is Forest Hill Village along Spadina Road. It has a great mix of restaurants, cafés, bakeries, grocery stores, boutiques and local services. It’s the kind of place where you can run a few errands, grab a coffee and probably run into someone you know.
There’s plenty of green space nearby too. Eglinton Park is just north of the neighbourhood and has sports fields, tennis courts, playgrounds and the North Toronto Memorial Community Recreation Centre. Cedarvale Park and the Kay Gardner Beltline Trail are also close by and are popular with walkers, runners, cyclists and dog owners. For something a little different, Sir Winston Churchill Park sits near the southern end of Forest Hill. It has tennis courts, sports fields, a playground and plenty of open space. The nearby Nordheimer Ravine is another great spot for a walk and connects into the larger ravine system.
Getting around is pretty convenient. St. Clair West Station provides access to Line 1, and the St. Clair streetcar runs east and west through the area. There are also buses along Spadina Road, Bathurst Street and Eglinton Avenue West.
Forest Hill is also close to some of Toronto's best-known neighbourhoods. You can easily get to Casa Loma, The Annex, Chaplin Estates, Cedarvale and Yonge-Eglinton, each with their own restaurants, shops and attractions.
What really makes Forest Hill stand out is the combination of space and location. You get beautiful residential streets and lots of greenery, but you’re still close enough to downtown for a relatively easy commute. It’s a neighbourhood that feels established and comfortable, but never completely disconnected from the city.
