Midtown

Midtown is one of those parts of Toronto where you really can have the best of both worlds. You’re close to downtown, but you still have quiet residential streets, parks, schools and plenty of places to get outside. At the heart of it all is Yonge and Eglinton, with restaurants, cafés, shops, offices and transit, while neighbourhoods like Davisville, Chaplin Estates, Forest Hill and Mount Pleasant give you a quieter place to come home to.

One of the things that makes Midtown so appealing is how much the area has changed over the years. Around Yonge and Eglinton, you’ll find plenty of condos and newer developments, while just a few blocks away are streets lined with classic Toronto homes, mature trees and established gardens. There’s a good mix of detached homes, semis, townhomes, condos and apartments, so there’s something for different stages of life.

For families, there are plenty of schools throughout Midtown, including North Toronto Collegiate Institute, Northern Secondary School, Maurice Cody Junior Public School, Davisville Junior Public School and Eglinton Junior Public School. There are also several Catholic school options in the area. With parks, recreation centres and quiet residential streets nearby, it’s easy to see why so many families choose to stay in Midtown for the long term.

One of the biggest perks of living here is how easy it is to get around without a car. Eglinton Station connects you to Line 1, while the Line 5 Eglinton Crosstown adds another east-west connection through Midtown. There are also buses along Yonge, Eglinton, Mount Pleasant and Avenue Road, making it pretty easy to get around the city.

And then there’s Yonge and Eglinton, which is really the centre of the neighbourhood. You have the Yonge Eglinton Centre, restaurants, coffee shops, grocery stores, boutiques, movie theatres and plenty of local businesses all within walking distance. It’s busy and energetic, but head a few blocks away and things quickly become much quieter.

Midtown also has some great green spaces. Eglinton Park is a popular local spot with sports fields, tennis courts, a playground and the North Toronto Memorial Community Recreation Centre. June Rowlands Park, Sherwood Park and Blythwood Ravine Park are also nearby, giving residents plenty of places to walk, run, take the dog or let the kids burn off some energy.

One of the area's best-kept secrets is the Kay Gardner Beltline Trail. The former railway corridor runs through Midtown and is a favourite for walking, running and cycling. It connects into the larger trail system and is a great way to get outside without having to leave the neighbourhood.

You’re also right beside Mount Pleasant Cemetery, which may sound unusual at first, but it’s actually one of the prettiest green spaces in Midtown. The historic grounds are filled with mature trees, winding paths and beautiful gardens, and it’s a peaceful place to walk when you want a break from the busy city streets.

There’s no shortage of places to eat and shop either. Yonge Street, Eglinton Avenue, Mount Pleasant Road and Avenue Road are all filled with restaurants, cafés, bakeries and local businesses. Whether you’re grabbing a quick coffee, meeting friends for dinner or running errands, you usually don’t have to go far.

And if you want even more to explore, Midtown puts you close to some of Toronto’s best-known neighbourhoods. Davisville Village, Deer Park, Chaplin Estates, Forest Hill, Yonge-Eglinton and Mount Pleasant are all right around you, each with their own personality and local favourites.

What really makes Midtown stand out, though, is the convenience. You can walk to dinner, hop on the subway, head out for a walk along the Beltline and still be home in time for dinner. You get the energy and amenities of a major Toronto hub, but you’re never far from a quiet street or a little green space.
